This is Not the End

Given that my artistic tastes are so bad I never like to "recommend" things. But I feel confident in this.

I've found Gungor's latest album Ghosts Upon the Earth to be, musically and theologically, absolutely stunning.

The song "This is Not the End" is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard:

This is not the end
This is not the end of this
We will open our eyes wide, wider

This is not our last
This is not our last breath
We will open our mouths wide, wider

And you know you’ll be alright
Oh and you know you’ll be alright

This is not the end
This is not the end of us
We will shine like the stars bright, brighter
I find myself crying every time I hear it. It's my hope.

  1. Following your post about Lady Gaga and the prophetic witness in the lyrics of 'Born This Way', I went out and bought the CD!  My image with my teenage daughter rose to an all-time high; she affirmed me as the coolest mom around.  See the benefits of being a regular reader of ET?  I have not heard of Gungor, but I'll check it out now.  I'm big on lyrics that are deeply meaningful.  ~Peace~

  2. Gungor gives me hope as well. I work with teens and young adults. My experience is that they appreciate the beauty and depths of  these lyrics. My classes were spellbound and deeply moved by the music/lyrics when I played it for them in class. So much so that many were restoratively moved toward re-interest in God.

    So thankful for their music.

  3. I'll have to check them out. I read this Frederick Buechner quote this morning:

"What's lost is nothing to what's found, and all the death that ever was, set next to life, would scarcely fill a cup."

  4. Thank you, very comforting as this last Friday I lost my older sister to cancer.... I too hope....hope...hope it to be so....

  5. That hope has been one of the hardest things to lose in losing my faith. As my wife has said, it just seems like people should go on forever. Or I think of what CS Lewis wrote, about a recently deceased friend: "When the idea of death and the idea of Williams met in my mind, it was the idea of death that changed."

  6. Susan, definitely check them out.  Their album before the one Dr. Beck is talking about is probably one of my favorite albums of all times.  Every song is theologically impacting and musically beautiful.

  7. Just put it onto Spotify.
Hmmm, maybe you should make a few more recommendations with your 'bad' artistic tastes... :)

  8. If you are a fan of Gungor and/or you get a bad taste in your mouth on occasion when listening to Christian music, check out this insightful blog post by Gungor:

The article seems to have a number of correlations to this wonderful blog.
