Colossians 3.12-14

Put on compassion,
kindness,
humility,
gentleness,
and patience.
Be tolerant with each other
and, if someone has a complaint against anyone,
forgive each other.
As the Lord forgave you,
so also forgive each other.
And over all these things
put on love

  1. 34:5 The
    Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the
    Lord by name.9 34:6 The Lord passed by before him and
    proclaimed:10
    “The Lord, the Lord,11 the compassionate and gracious12 God, slow to
    anger,13 and
    abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,14 34:7 keeping loyal love for thousands,15 forgiving
    iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty
    unpunished, responding to the transgression16 of fathers by dealing with children and
    children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”

  2. One of my prayers for Evangelical America is that they can bring themselves to break the stone of "perfection" on which they have chiseled these words and receive them as the All in All breath of Christ. But, before they are able to do that they will have to listen to, or read, a few more voices other than those on afternoon radio.

    "... when religion speaks only in the name of authority rather than with the voice
    of compassion--its message becomes meaningless.” Abraham Joshua Heschel, from "God in Search of Man".

  3. Richard, God overrode that last sentence as far back as the OT.

    Ezekiel 18:
    2 “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying:

    ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes,
    And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

    3 “As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.

    4 “Behold, all souls are Mine;
    The soul of the father
    As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
    The soul who sins shall die.

    5 But if a man is just
    And does what is lawful and right;
    6 If he has not eaten on the mountains,
    Nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel,
    Nor defiled his neighbor’s wife,
    Nor approached a woman during her impurity;
    7 If he has not oppressed anyone,
    But has restored to the debtor his pledge;
    Has robbed no one by violence,
    But has given his bread to the hungry
    And covered the naked with clothing;
    8 If he has not exacted usury
    Nor taken any increase,
    But has withdrawn his hand from iniquity
    And executed true judgment between man and man;
    9 If he has walked in My statutes
    And kept My judgments faithfully—
    He is just;
    He shall surely live!”
    Says the Lord God.
