Merry Christmas!

Dear Reader,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I'll be away for about about two weeks to visit family for the holidays. I'll also be going to California to meet with the Institute for Research on Psychology and Spirituality.

When I return I'll continue on with my review of the work of Rene Girard and S. Mark Heim's recent book Saved from Sacrifice: A Theology of the Cross.

Currently, here are the posts in the The Voice of the Scapegoat series for quick reference:

Part 1: The Crisis of Penal Substitutionary Atonement
Part 2: Sacred Violence, Scapegoats, and Myth
Part 3: The Bloody Antimyth
Part 4: Whispers of Victims

Best,
Richard

  1. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for the link to the Institute. It seems to me the connection of Psychology and Religion is something that has been impacted by Joseph Campbell and Karl Jung. Would be interested in your view of Jung and his effect on things some time.

  2. Dr. Beck,

By selfishly taking a two-week vacation you are abdicating your responsibility to keep me theologically stimulated. I await your return impatiently.

  3. Rich Beck,

Found your blog. slow day. you're my favorite experimental theologian. and look at you helping all these people. after xmas dinner, I'm experiencing quite a bit of body disgust. but seeing the nice summary of Heim is helping the digestion.
