On Blogging: A Conversation with Rachel Held Evans

Last month Rachel Held Evans, author and blogger, was on ACU's campus for Summit. I know many of you follow Rachel's blog and have read her book Evolving in Monkey Town.

During her time on campus the ACU Honors College sponsored and hosted a discussion with Rachel and I about our experience as Christian bloggers. The good people in ACU's Learning Studio have put together three videos, now online, capturing our conversation.

For my own part, I had a blast and felt deeply blessed to get to spend some time with Rachel.

Enjoy!

Part 1: Where we discuss the history of our blogs

Part 2: Where we discuss civil discourse on blogs

Part 3: Where we discuss some of the neurotic aspects of blogging

  1. :-)

I got them at Shoe Carnival half off doing a buy one (my son's shoes) and get 50% off a second pair:

  2. How wonderful to meet the embodied version of you (and Rachel)!  And there's a kind of vicarious ego-stroking to watching people talk about the blog one contributes to.  I love that you're so down-to-earth about this site, but also want to keep reminding you how much more than just a blog it is.  Just promise to keep it up, Richard - you were (and continues to be) a gift from God to many of us, I suspect.

  3. Fun conversation! Thanks for doing this. I didn't notice that you were on blogger until you said something about it. Then I looked up at the URL. Funny.

  4. This is what I tell myself. Blogger is so uncool, I'm kinda cool for being here.

But if we want to get theological, how about this:

    1 Corinthians 2.1-5
And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did
not come with eloquence or human wisdom or a self-hosted blogging platform as I proclaimed to you the
testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you on Blogger with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, Wordpress or something even more professional, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on HTML code but on God’s power.

  5. In the interviews you mentioned you looked at the Huffington Post for religious news. You might already know about this site, but I find it useful for everyday reading http://www.realclearreligion.org/

  6. How exciting! Two of my favorite bloggers in one place, having a real conversation! I'd also like to take credit for this connection in some way because I'm the faithful reader who first sent Rachel a link to your blog. :-) Not a very frequent commenter, but very grateful for both of you.

  7. Excellent dialogue! I really appreciated your comments about stats and working with people from other viewpoints. Kudos to both of you.
